Levante vs Athletic Bilbao – Copa del Rey Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Semifinal return leg, with Levante taking on Athletic Bilbao on Thurday the 4th of March, 2021, at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia.

Levante have the upper hand, as they drew 1-1 in Bilbao three weeks ago. For the time being, that away goal they scored back then, keeps them favorites to qualify for the final. Racing Murcia, Portugalete, Fuenlabrada, Real Valladolid and Villarreal, these are the five teams Levante have already eliminated this season in Copa del Rey. Mind you, they needed penalties against Fuenlabrada, after drawing 1-1 away from home, and in the quarterfinals they needed extra time to beat Villarreal 1-0 at home. Their current form reads; DWDLD. Ironically, their most recent game was against Athletic Bilbao, last weekend, at home, in La Liga. It was a 1-1 draw, a result that if repeated in this game, the tie will go to extra time (and possibly penalties). Levante are on 32 points from 25 matches in La Liga, 9th in the table. Coach Paco López played a 3-4-2-1 formation against Athletic last weekend, with Roger Martí up front. He was the one who scored their only goal (1-0), from the penalty spot, in the 34th minute.

The first leg’s 1-1 draw, means that Athletic, no matter what, have to score. If they also keep a clean sheet, even better, but scoring at least once is an absolute must. Their current form reads; DDWDD. As previously mentioned, they drew 1-1 with Levante last weekend, as guests. They are on 30 points from 24 matches (they have one in hand) in La Liga, 10th in the table. As for whom they have already eliminated in Copa del Rey this season, the list contains three names, Ibiza (1-2), Alcoyano (another 1-2), and Betis (on penalties, as guests, after a 1-1 draw). Coach Marcelino played a 4-4-2 formation against Levante last weekend, with Raúl García and Iñaki Williams up front. The former was the one who equalized for them in the 56th minute, from the penalty spot.

As already mentioned, Athletic and Levante drew 1-1 in the first leg, in Bilbao. They faced each other again last Friday, they drew 1-1 in La Liga, with Levante as hosts.

A 1-1 draw is predicted at full-time, same with extra time, with the tie getting decided on penalties.
