Bayer Leverkusen vs Freiburg – Bundesliga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 23 encounter, with Bayer Leverkusen taking on Freiburg on Sunday the 28th of February, 2021, at BayArena.

Bayer Leverkusen’s games recently have been full of… dramas. Two weeks ago, they conceded twice after the 89th minute to drop two points against Mainz at home (2-2 from 2-0). Right after that, they went from 3-0 down to 3-3 level against Young Boys as guests, only to lose 4-3 due to a 89th-minute goal. Last weekend, they salvaged a point at Augsburg, equalizing 1-1 deep-deep into added time. Last but not least, on Thursday, they were expected to do the… bare minimum, beat Young Boys at home by at least one goal, qualify for the Europa League last 16, but instead, they lost 0-2(!). Their current form reads; LDLDW. They are on 37 points from 22 matches in the Bundesliga, 5th in the table (at least before Saturday’s games). They have 10W, 7D and 5L, having won just one of their last five matches. Goals, 40 scored, 24 conceded. Coach Peter Bosz played a 4-3-3 formation against Augsburg last weekend. Tapsoba “saved” Bayer with his 94th-minute equalizer.

Freiburg hosted Union Berlin last weekend, a Union side that had left a lot to be desired in weeks, failing to win any of their previous five matches. Freiburg went 0-1 down in the 64th minute, failed to answer back, that 0-1 did not change until the final whistle, leaving Freiburg empty-handed. Their current form reads; LDWLW. They are on 31 points from 22 matches, 9th in the table (at least before Saturday’s games). They have 8W, 7D and 7L, having earned seven points from their last five matches. Goals, 35 scored, 34 conceded. Coach Christian Streich played some sort of a 4-2-2-2 formation against Union last weekend, with Petersen and Haberer up front. It’s… crazy how Freiburg have not scored in three of their last four Bundesliga games, but in that one they did score, they did so twice, and beat Borussia Dortmund(!) 2-1 at home. No goal for them against Wolfsburg (3-0 defeat as guests), Werder (in Bremen, 0-0), and of course, Union (last weekend, 0-1 loss at home).

In the reverse fixture, back in November, Bayer won 2-4 as guests.

A 2-1 victory for the hosts is predicted at full-time.

Date: Sunday, 28th of February, 2021.

Venue: BayArena

Kick-off time: 18:00 (GMT+2).
