Union Berlin vs Hoffenheim – Bundesliga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 23 encounter, with Union Berlin taking on Hoffenheim on Sunday the 28th of February, 2021, at Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Union Berlin visited Freiburg last weekend, desperate for a win, as they had stayed without one in five games. They opened the scoring in the 64th minute, and as they managed to keep a clean sheet, that single goal proved enough to earn them all three points. Their current form reads; WDLDL. They are on 33 points from 22 matches, 7th in the table (at least before Saturday’s games). They have 8W, 9D and 5L, having won just one of their last five games, the one last weekend. Goals, 35 scored, 25 conceded. Coach Urs Fischer played a 3-5-2 formation against Freiburg, with Bülter and Pohjanpalo up front. Prömel was the one who scored the only goal of the match, his second of the season, from 15 Bundesliga appearances. The 26-year-old had no goal last season, from 16 games in the league. As hosts, Union have lost just one of their last 15 matches (going back to last season as well), a 1-3 to Augsburg on September 19(!). Somehow though, they “managed” to stay at a goalless draw with Schalke in their most recent game, a very poor result.

Hoffenheim looked awesome last weekend when they hosted Werder Bremen, they triumphed 4-0, three days after drawing 3-3 with Molde as guests, in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie. On Thursday they hosted the Norwegian side, most probably the vast majority of fans expected the Bundesliga team to finish the job off rather easily, but despite their… countless shots on and off target, and their overall dominance onto the pitch, Hoffenheim actually lost 0-2(!), conceding in the 19th minute, and then again in added time. Shocking result for them. Their current form reads; LWDDL. They are on 26 points from 22 matches, 11th in the table (at least before Saturday’s games). They have 7W, 5D and 10L, having scored 36 goals, and conceded 39. Coach Sebastian Hoeness played a 3-4-1-2 formation against Werder last weekend, with Bebou and Dabour up front. Both scored, and so did Baumgartner and Rutter.

In the reverse fixture, back in November, Union won 1-3 in Sinsheim.

A 1-1 draw is predicted at full-time.

Date: Sunday, 28th of February, 2021.
